Sun Kil Moon is the primary recording moniker of vocalist and guitarist Mark Kozelek, formed in 2002 as a continuation of the indie rock band Red House Painters.
Kozelek is the singer, songwriter, and guitarist behind Sun Kil Moon. He was also a founding member of Red House Painters, with whom he recorded six studio albums from 1988 until 2001. Sun Kil Moon is known for its folk rock and indie folk sound, with Kozelek's introspective and often melancholic lyrics.
Sun Kil Moon has released numerous albums, including "Ghosts of the Great Highway" (2003), "Admiral Fell Promises" (2010), and "Among the Leaves" (2012). Most recently “All The Artists” was released on Caldo Verde Records March 28, 2025. The album was recorded in Highland Park, Los Angeles 2023/2024. Music by David Stagno. Kozelek has collaborated with other musicians, including Justin Broadrick (Jesu/Sun Kil Moon) and Hungarian band Amoeba. He has also been involved in other musical projects, including producing "Take Me Home: A Tribute to John Denver" and appearing in films like "Almost Famous" and "Vanilla Sky".
